Studio Soundtrack #4 - Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm
Relay Design Agency spoke to designer Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm about her studio practice and the music she listens to whilst producing designs for her clients - including Skagerak, Frama and +Halle.
What is the first thing that you do when you get into your studio?
Apart from pulling up the blinds it is pairing my phone with my Beoplay A1 and figuring out which music fits with my mood. Sometimes it is easy, other times hard.
What is your most treasured studio item?
Muji 0.38 pens and A4 paper
What would be your dream project?
I feel like I have already had a few of those. And what characterises them is a good chemistry between the people involved. This is what I hope for with any new projects.
How is music important to your creative processes?
I have a really hard time working without music. It is hard for me to concentrate when it is silent. Sometimes I listen to the same music for months at a time. In other periods I shift daily. I depends on the work I am doing. Some music can put me right back into a certain state of concentration as soon as I turn it on.
What do you do to relax after a day working in your studio?
I am a couch potato so lying down is a daily routine.

Chris Liljenberg Halstrøm lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark
Chris mainly works with furniture and smaller objects for the home always taking a starting point from everyday situations. She focuses on familiarity and neutrality as topics in order to create new expressions and purposes for objects. This applies whether she works with companies such as +Halle or with objects for exhibitions.
In 2017 Chris received the Three Year Work Grant from The Danish Arts Foundation.
Chris L. Halstrøm established her studio in 2007 after graduating from The Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen with prior studies in Stockholm, Sweden and Berlin, Germany.
